18 Wheels of Steel
18 Wheels of Steel
DVD - 60 Minutes
This video is filled with spectacular scenes of Norfolk & Western Class "A" 2-6-6-4 No. 1218 in her very first excursion runs. We follow her all the way from the NS Steam Shop in Birmingham, Alabama to her birthplace city of Roanoke, Virginia.
Then it's into the mountains on her first excursion in some rainy weather that was so bad the trips were almost canceled! Our multiple camera crews captured all the magnificent drama of big steam in action as the 1218 pulled the train from Roanoke to Bluefield, West Virginia.
The next day was all sunshine and the 1218 was once again running out of Roanoke. In stark contrast to her first revenue day, Mother Nature provided us with a beautiful Sunday to watch the 1218 do what she does best. Cab scenes, aerial views and scores of gorgeous runbys highlight this show about the N&W's finest freight locomotive.
It is unlikely that the 1218 will ever run again.
