The Majestic Mikado
The Majestic Mikado
WATCH THE TRAILER!
Built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1911, the 4501 was the first Mikado on the Southern Railroad. She ran the rails for 37 years, but in 1948, modern F3 diesels from EMD took her place. But retirement was short for this Majestic Mikado, a lady born to run!
In this video, youâll see 4501 run through southwest Indiana, pulling round trip excursions from Huntingburg to Evansville. Then it's on to Richmond, Virginia, and the â Dixie Limitedâ. Leaving Richmond behind, she wheels âem hard sprinting for Keysville through Amelia, Jennings Ordinary and Green Bay. At Keysville, youâll see some of the âDixie Days Festivalâ. Then its back to the track as 4501 returns to Richmond.
With over 30 runbys, pacing scenes, rare film footage, plus a few surprise appearances from some other steam locomotives, we think youâll agree, the 4501 is truly âThe Majestic Mikadoâ.
Digitally re-mastered, this videos bring you forty minutes of great steam action!
