In 1963 the Morris County Central Railroad began operating a steam powered tourist line in New Jersey. The line prospered for many years under the direction of the road’s founder Earl Gil.

Using a former Southern 2-8-0 and a U.S. Army 0-6-0 for power, the railroad carried thousands of passengers on rides through the scenic New Jersey countryside for many years.

This video tells the story of the Morris County Central Railroad in fascinating detail. You’ll see many of the unique operations of the railroad including steam doubleheaders and winter running in the snow.

You’ll hear the intriguing story of the road’s huge success . . . and its ultimate failure.
